Frequently Asked Question Posted 10/11/2008

Which SMS Gateways are supported?
How do I add/change an SMS Gateway?

Do I need to worry about Gateways?

If you’re using Maildash 1.6 or newer on an iPhone with OS 3.0, then you don’t need to worry about Gateways because you can have Maildash send native SMS text messages via the built-in iPhone 3.0 Messages app (set this preference from Maildash’s Settings screen).

If you’re using an iPod Touch, then Maildash sends SMS text messages via Email-to-SMS Gateways, and you should read the rest of this page.

Desparately Seeking Gateways

Maildash comes with quite a few SMS Gateways (listed below), and we’re looking for new ones all the time. If you know of a gateway that works (but is not yet included with Maildash) then please consider sharing the love with other Maildash users. Just send the info to us using our contact form at http://www.pureblendsoftware.com/contactus

How to add a new Gateway

If Maildash does not yet list a particular mobile carrier’s SMS Gateway—or the SMS Gateway email address has changed— then you can add or modify the Gateway yourself. Here’s how:

• Tap the "Gateways" tab (you may have to tap the "More" tab first)

• Tap the "Edit Gateways" button

• Choose a country

• Choose the appropriate mobile carrier, or tap the "Add New Provider" button

• Enter the new SMS format into the second text entry field

• Tap the "Done" button

Not all Carriers provide Gateways

Here in the U.S., most major carriers have email-to-SMS gateways. Worldwide, this is not always true. Several folks have told us about some commercial (for pay) gateway services-- which are compatible with Maildash. We don't know enough about them yet to recommend a particular service.

Here are the current free Email-to-SMS Gateways that come with Maildash
